Growing up with these songs, they are very dear to my heart. Every child in Iceland knows some of them and every singing student goes through singing some of them. But I wanted also to introduce newer songs, less sung songs, songs from younger generations, so with this CD one can journey through the years with the Icelandic Lied. Then of course, there are songs from my family; my grandfather wrote Hjarðmærin for singer María Markan, Finnagaldur is composed by my uncle on my fathers side (originally it’s chamber music - you can hear a different version on Spotify) , Hjá fljótinu by my uncle on my mothers side, and finally Róa róa rambinn and the four Andalucian poems (Bjart hörund, Mín elskaða kemur, Garðurinn and Ástmærin) are by my father.

I’m very honoured to include two new songs on the CD, that were composed especially for me! Húsið mitt (My house) and Vötn (Lakes) are written by young and brilliant composers, Halldór Smárason and Veronique Vaka. These songs couldn’t be more different from each other, both very unique and beautiful, and I am so happy and proud to sing them.

The CD Booklet only contains the Icelandic poetry, but I’ve collected English translations, put them together in a PDF file that you can download here.
A PDF with german translations can be downloaded here.
